Stock photography images of the Sacred Mayan Journey 2011 event held on the Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo, Mexico. This annual event recreates an ancient Mayan pilgrimage in sea-going canoes. Over 300 paddlers make the crossing in at least 30 traditional dugout canoes to Isla de Cozumel, where they make offerings to the Mayan fertility goddess Ixchel and then take her blessings back to the mainland.
