16 imagesStock photos photography of Paricutin Volcano in Michoacan, Mexico. Volcan Paricutin began erupting in a farmer's field in 1943. Lava from the volcano eventually buried the town of San Juan Parangaricutiro. Today, almost all that remains of the town is the steeple of its church poking through the solidified lava. The nearby Tarascan (Purepecha) village of Angahuan was spared by the eruption. Angahuan has a 16th-century church with unusual Moorish designs surrounding its entrance.
