The inauguration of this new museum was presided over by then-president of Mexico Felipe Calderon on November 1, 2012. The 4,400 square-foot museum cost about 15 million dollars to build, and it displays some 350 archaeological artifacts. The building's striking hurricane-proof design was the work of Mexican architect Alberto Garcia LascurĂ¡in. The adjacent San Miguelito archaeological site dates back 800 years.
